Ok, so for lunch today, I wanted to try something new. I’ve heard about the Elvis sandwich before, and I literally laugh every time I think about it in all of its gluttinous glory. If you’ve never heard of it its pretty much a grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich with bacon. It was Elvis’ favorite sandwich during the time he was living out the last couple years of his fat disgusting life, and has become a staple in sandwich shops in his home state of Mississippi. I gotta say, for a famous, wealthy musician, the guy ate like a poor stoner college student. For more info on the Elvis, go here : WIKIPEDIA
So I set out today to find all the ingredients in my house to make this wonderful sandwich. Bacon, bread, and bananas are always readily available but surprisingly, peanut butter was nowhere to be found. What kind of house is this, right? Anyways, the best I could do was peanut butter’s sexier cousin, Nutella. I don’t know how it’ll taste, but obviously Nutella is much sweeter and more chocolaty than peanut butter, so it won’t be the quite same. Shame, I really wanted to get the full Elvis experience, but then again, I’d have to be 100 pounds overweight, and would have to eat the sandwich on the toilet.
Here’s the assemblage of the sandwich before grilling it. Yes, that is a Miracle Blade© Perfection Series 3 Steak Knife.

Here is the finished product.

I didn’t take any pictures of me eating because, well, it would be kinda tacky and hard to do.
Verdict : I guess I don’t have the palette of a washed up fatty musician. The combination of bacon and chocolate was kinda weird to me, not to say that the sandwich wasn’t inedible in anyway. As far as food goes, it was passable. I guess you could say that when you mix a lot of really good ingredients, it doesn’t translate into a really good sandwich. You’re better off eating a banana by itself, or spoonfuls of Nutella by itself. I really need to try it with peanut butter before I make a final decision, but for now, the Nutella-banana-bacon permutation is off of my sandwich list for good.
